An air-to-water charge-air cooling system moves intake heat into a coolant loop, and the heat exchanger is where that heat finally leaves the car. Size it too small and the loop has nowhere to dump the load. Coolant temperature climbs, the charge-air cooler stops pulling heat out of the intake tract, and intake temperatures rise with it. The Mishimoto Universal Air-to-Water Heat Exchanger gives that loop the capacity to keep up.
